Site outages solved

The Girl Genius site was up for the vast majority of July, hiccuped just as we were getting ready to leave for ComiCon, then fell to our spiraling popularity on Friday morning (July 27th).

We are back up as of Monday night, with somewhat stripped down navigation just for now. While having the site go down at all was extremely frustrating, especially as we were out of town and really couldn't do much about it, knowing the cause is from ever so many new people reading the comic more than makes up for it.

Thanks for reading!

I'm....sorry?

I love the strip and hate to put you to so much trouble, but I'm going to keep reading. I'll try not to check quite so often on update days. Maybe that'll help!

Re: I'm....sorry?

Since the problem is total bytes transferred in a month, it probably makes no difference at all when you read.

Re: I'm....sorry?

The present scheme should mean that bandwidth, even really large bandwidth, won't be a problem. So cruise with confidence!

Updates for Girl Genius are always at Midnight Eastern Time, so checking repeatedly shouldn't be necessary anyway, but feel free if it's what amuses you.

Buck Godot and What's New are on a different server, and weren't affected by any of this. Their updates are currently at Midnight Pacific Time.

I'll try not to say anything that'll get me sued, but you can count on me to be candid. Wednesday, March 2, -- Boy.

I actually posted that on March 2

I have no idea where it's been in the meantime.

Re: I actually posted that on March 2

Strange indeed, especially since this post was from a year ago, and until just now hasn't had a comment since last fall. Yesterday and today, on the other hand, there's been a veritable flood of comment spam. I'm deleting them as I find them. (Not you, obviously.)

Hopefully, once all the new folks work their way through the archives, the surge will taper off to something manageable.

I have been a Foglio fan since Dragon Mag

Don't worry bout little ole me. I knew you guys would get the site back up, so I broke out the books and read those instead.

The TWC vote incentives still aren't working. This isn't urgent, but it just seems odd since I wouldn't expect those to be affected by the script problems.

However, the Buzz incentives are working just fine. This combination would qualify as odd, except that (a) I've screwed up webservers myself before and (b) by Girl Genius standard levels of "odd" (EG, "a balloon ride with a unicorn"), this is picayune.

I must admit that I often buy from Amazon since I know I am saving money becuase of the sales tax, but I think that this is a loophole that should really be closed since it gives Amazon an unfair advantage over local merchants and other national companies that must collect the tax.

Sorry if it's confusing [info]sangveith, but we just got a *flood* of spam comments on this blog, and I've been deleting them as I find them. I really can't tell which one you are responding to, but you are the first one this week that has had anything remotely related to say.

I felt kind of bad after linking to you in my daily con report. (I did some guest posts on Comics Should be Good during the convention.) Here I thought I was being all helpful, bringing the comic to the attention of potential new readers, but no, all they got was a big "site down" error. Talk about lousy timing.

On the plus side, I can't claim any blame for it, since judging by the number of comments, not that many people were reading my posts anyway.

I'm one of those new readers myself, and I love it so much that I've turned my friends to it too! Keep up the great work!

Re: yah

in that case, dont forget the myth books (my first into to the foglio style. )

also, phil did an excellent comic for harlan ellisons dream corridor. i dont see that one listed on a lot of collection lists of foglio work.

man, id love to see the two work together more. especially with the tv version of the discarded coming up, id love to see the foglios draw that one.

Its to bad but...

It's too bad about the down time (again) but it is for the best of reasons.

Having recruited a few dozen readers, I feel proud to have contributed to this mile stone...

Congratulations!

My own withdrawal symptoms involved a few too many spare parts, We call it Fred.

Bug Report

RSS feed lags. A new comic doesn't show up in the RSS feed until the next comic is posted (e.g., last Friday's comic didn't show up until Monday's update). I first noticed this last week.
